This past week, I met with ED of Oakland’s Food First, Eric Holt-Gimenez, PhD. I would like to share this article below by Eric, that was inspired by our brainstorming dialogue last week.
Eric conveys his ideas about the Food Movement and racism. This is great “food for thought” for many who do not understand how anti racism should be a default practice within the mainstream food movement ( ‘slow food’, ‘organic food’ and ‘eat local’), period . Unfortunately, the conscious practices of anti-racism via dismantling structural, systemic, and institutional racisms are absent for the most part, within the mainstream food movement.
